In Bulgaria, above Sofia, in the forest, the hiker may encounter an unlikely large abandoned hotel, once part of the Bor chain. One can enter through a kitchen window, which still contains much of its equipment. A highly unusual place to visit as a guest, yet one so used daily by a staff that has now disappeared.
The place still bears curious traces of habitation, such as a huge pile of shoes, a whole variety of everyday objects in drawers removed from their cabinets, and an accumulation of overturned, partially destroyed furniture. An upstairs door curiously remains securely padlocked… Seats and couches suggest a restaurant that was once frequented, hosting a wide variety of convivial gatherings, meetings, meals, and adventures for couples whose memory has now faded in this abandoned place.
Other derelict places and houses can be quite easily encountered in those beautiful woods above Sofia.
