The Cluj Napoca Steampunk Museum justifies in itself a visit to the city. Across two floors, a considerable variety of remarkable objects, assemblages and constructions are exhibited, demonstrating extraordinary inventiveness and craftsmanship. Everyday objects have been subjected to improbable repurposings, unexpected enrichments, and imaginative expressions that transport us to an alternate reality familiar to science fiction, from Jules Verne to Tim Powers, including great Japanese creators such as Hayao Miyasaki.
Cages, guitars, video game consoles, bicycles, bathtubs, various pipes, lamps… The diversity of sources boggles the imagination with these improbable inventions and proliferating assemblages, all diverted from their ordinary appearance. The knowledge, erudition and kindness of the guides, who have a strong sense of humor, accompany a disconcerting visit that even includes a journey through time in a seat hidden behind a very well-stocked library.
