On north of Sibenik, on a rather desolate country road not used by tourists visiting the waterfalls of the Krka Natural Park, lie abandoned villages. Witnesses to a distant past, sometimes they accumulate successive layers of ancient history, remains of walls that seem to have emerged from excavations, landscapes of solitude and abandonment. Like this abandoned school in Croatia that should have seen many pupils pass through, as evidenced by the teachers’ workbooks and notes scattered on the ground.
The place is virtually intact, bearing no graffiti, simply the passage of time and seasons, like a paradise for urbex lovers. It awakens in the consciousness of the foreign visitor the absent memory and the silent echoes of games, recreations, and lessons from forgotten years, vanished, in an extinct village doomed to dereliction.
As the road goes on, deserted facilities are encountered, but they have been way more visited than this forgotten village.
