Waterfalls in Croatia Plitvice National Park

Plitvice Falls is one of the most visited sites in Croatia, due to the number, variety, and especially the splendor of its waterfalls.

How many are there? They have undoubtedly been counted, but visitors always discover new ones as they walk through them. Each one differs in size and grouping, their variety is dizzying. The journey is one of surprise and wonder, as this unique place holds so many splendors.

The north entrance leads immediately to the large cascade while the south entrance leads to a greater variety of other ones, of different sizes. The two parts of the site are connected by a short boat travel. A little walk through the woods allows the visitor to admire the landscape of this magnificent park from a higher up, and better contemplate the series of lakes surrounded by forests.

It is recommended to visit the nature park in spring, very early in the morning as soon as it opens at 7:00 a.m., as there are still very few tourists. The crowds begin to form around 9:00 a.m. and completely transform and alter the pleasure of this unique place. It is wise to plan a visit over two days, one day for each entrance, and to enjoy the park’s surroundings as the day progresses. For example, the small town of Rastoke, 26 km to the north, also has remarkable waterfalls (see last images below).
