In Romania, the Cheile Nerei-Beuşniţa national park is ideal for numerous hikes. Sasca Montana waterfalls and urbex are unavoidable beyond the small village. First, in Sasca Romana, a wooden slatted suspension bridge opens a long walk through ancient Roman tunnels in a magnificent scenery. The trail joins a forest road with cascades leading to the Beuşniţei main waterfall, discovering the curious Ochiul Beiului lake.
At the end of the village of Sasca Montana itself is a disused factory that will delight urban exploration enthusiasts.
Beyond this factory, a forest path leads to the Susara waterfall. From there, a long walk through a very wild forest leads to the village of Carbunari, which overlooks Sasca Montana. A very uneven road for cars descends, opening vast views of the forest-covered hills. From Carbunari it is also possible to take a path to Lake Dracului, whose unique blue-green waters are comparable to the small lake Ochiul Beiului.
On the other side of the nature park, the town of Baile Herculane is one of the oldest spa towns in Europe, the quality of its waters having been known since the Romans. A large disused spa in the heart of the town is unfortunately not open to visitors or urbex lovers…
